Former Trump Hotels CEO to lead Boise investment firm

A high-ranking executive who worked for companies owned by the Trump family is headed to Boise.

Eric Danziger is leaving his post as the CEO of Trump Hotels in favor of a gig running Boise-based investment firm Braintree. Braintree runs a network of charter schools, multifamily housing, storage facilities, and mid-range hotels. He ran the luxury hotel brand with ten locations spread across the United States, Ireland, and the United Kingdom for six years.

“I have an excitement for learning new things, and this is a unique opportunity for me to apply my skills to an expanded portfolio of businesses, as well as allow me to move closer to family in the Boise area,” Danziger wrote in a news release from Braintree.

Dangizer’s son is an employee at Braintree and he already owns a home in Boise, according to The Hill and The New York Times. He cited family reasons as the decision behind his departure from Trump Hotels and thanked the Trump family for being “incredibly supportive” during his career with the brand.

He got his start as a bellman at The Fairmont San Francisco in high school and climbed his way up to the top of several leading hotel companies. This includes roles as President and CEO of Starwood Hotels, President and CEO of Carlson Hotels Worldwide and President and CEO of discount brand Wyndham Hotel Group.

Braintree is behind Athlos Academies, and the two share the old Bon Marche/Macy’s building in Downtown Boise. The company also operates Braintree Hospitality, which owns or operates a network of hotels across the western US, including a Hilton Garden Inn location off Overland Rd. in Boise.

While once a major flagship of Trump’s network of businesses, the Trump Hotels brand has shrunk in recent years.

Since 2017, Trump Hotels stopped managing luxury properties in New York City, Toronto, Panamaand Vancouver. The Trump Hotel in Washington D.C. could soon be removed from the company’s lineup after a committee in the U.S. House of Representatives asked the federal government last month to terminate the company’s lease of the historic Old Post Office, which houses the Washington D.C. Trump Hotel.  Trump Hotels operates nearly a dozen properties in the US and Internationally.

Danziger came on board with plans to expand Trump Hotels offerings with two new brands “aimed at capitalizing on Mr. Trump’s popularity in red states and towns outside of big cities” in 2017, the New York Times reported. But, the new brands did not launch.
